107. Cycle pub crawl Jericho and Summertown on a Thursday evening, Thursday 12th July 2007

It was a Thursday evening in Summer and Dave Wacey and I had decided that some pubs needed to be added to the list. As it was supposed to be a 'school night' we decided to be quite restrained and only have a couple. As per usual I was late but so was Dave and we both rendezvoused at the same time outside the Royal Oak. This is much nicer since the days when it did some piss or other like Burton and we had a nice beer outside. We were supposed to pay a visit to the Victoria but it was not open (and at the time of writing I believe this place has been acquired by a company who will turn it into a bag of shit). We therefore went for a half in the Gardeners Arms on Plantation Road. We'd actually been in there already that evening but the immense queue forced us to the Victoria. Alas we were back before the queue had cleared significantly.

The Gardeners was however very nice and Dave and I sat in the room near the garden wth the enormous armchairs rather than brave the somewhat full garden. Next stop the Anchor and a couple of ridiculously expensive halves at £1.60 each! They must be still paying for their refurbishment although why they did that remains a mystery as it was actually very nice in there. Now it panders to a more middle class champagne socialist set. We won't be back in a hurry.

Another pub that has been redone is the Dew Drop Inn in Summertown. But they have not fucked this one up. It could have done with a it of a kick up the arse. They have retained their fairly good selection of ale and we had something like Landlord which was pretty good. I am always quite happy to come to this pub, it is a bit of a favourite of mine. Though I don't really know why. Not wishing to stop at the Dancing Dragon, we moved back across Summertown to the Woodstock Arms. This isn't as good as it was and the beer was a bit pedestrian, something like Abbot or IPA which is not that inspiring, although OK nonetheless.

As a final push we made our way to the Dogwood which is another one of these pubs that I quite like for no apparent reason. On this occasion we got something decent like a Ruddles Orchard or similar and in general were reasonably please with our quick Thursday foray. On a personal note, I was quite pleased with myself because I did not need to stop for a piss between the Woodstock Arms and the Dogwood.
