180. More Chelsea pubs, Saturday 9th July 2016

In our first post Brexit vote pub crawl, Avril, Richard and I decided to take in a few pubs. A bastion of true Britishness, the White Horse at Parson's Green, was where we started. Though being in cosmopolitan Chelsea, there are actually people from all over the place drinking there. On a warm day, it is better to get a seat outside if you can, and luckily we did, even though it was quite busy and smelt of BBQ. Inside it is a bit bare in places, though could be quite cosy in others on a cold day. But at least you can see the full range of beers unimpeded, and an impressive range of beers it is, which taste good too.

The Aragon House is across the green. Looks quite nice but the idiots have a stupid policy about the pricing of halves and we were charged about a tenner for three of them. Richard took exception to this, so we left without paying and without touching them.

The Duke on the Green was a much more satisfying pub, selling various Young's beers - Bitter, Special, London Gold, Festival - and all of them pretty well kept. Traditional looking, smart, slightly quirky interior, and with a focus on food, and no garden. The sort of place that annoying types might go to in the Winter months for a Sunday lunch. Keep them in the dining areas and away from the bar and all will be good.

After walking into and then straight out of the Eelbrook which looked more like a swanky restaurant (though apparently there is a bar), we found the more familiar and reliable surroundings of the Rose. The sun trap of the garden was the only place to go and we sampled a couple of rounds here, them having just a couple of beers on, but very good ones.

There must have been some idiots in the Imperial Arms although I don't quite know why. Stupid staff, fellow drinkers getting in the way? I am not sure but we only stayed for one as they only had one beer on. There was a nicer pub up the road that has now closed - Hand and Flower. This one seemed to have arrogant sorts drinking there, maybe that is why we did not like it?

Jam Tree again and whilst there was no beer, it was lively and we got a good table near the garden. The usual beautiful people were drinking there, but it did not hit the heights of a previous midday visit when we ended up drawing phalluses on the menu.

Last pub of the day was the Tommy Tucker, another reasonably large and busy gastropub in some back streets that we had not been to before. As with the Duke, it has a quirky interior and a load of trendy youngsters whooping it up. Not unpleasant though, and we enjoyed Tommy Tucker Ale (actually quite good), Timothy Taylor Landlord and Doombar. All well kept and a nice enough place to stay. We were however tiring a little, so called it a day and then taxi back to Marylebone.
